Watercolor Course

Discover this sensuous, translucent and flowing medium! Allow yourself to be creative, playful, spontaneous, messy and have fun learning basic and experimental watercolour techniques. Enjoy practicing new skills in creating your unique landscape, still life or abstract pictures.

Supply List

On the first class, we will be talking about materials. If you are unsure about any of the items on this list we will discuss what they are, how they are used and what you should look for when buying them.

If you already have any supply for watercolor painting, please, bring them. All these supplies you can buy in Wyndham Art Supply.

  1. Masonite board or other board to tape paper (size 12x16” or bigger)

  2. Masking tape

  3. Watercolor palette (you can use a plastic or ceramic palette, or a simple white plate for palette. It’s very convenient to have a folding palette or a palette with a lid (plastic palette suitable for watercolour painting that can hold the paints as well as have a mixing area)

  4. Watercolour paper for exercises (suggested Canson 140lb, 9x12 pack of 30) or similar cold pressed.

  5. Watercolor Cotton paper:

Option 1 : Bee paper. You can find it in Michaels. Very good price with discount:


Option 2: quality cotton paper such as Arches, Saunders or Winsor & Newton, 140 lb., Cold Press. These papers come in full sheets (22x30”). You can cut your paper into the desired size and tape to a board. 1-2 sheets. (We need this paper after the first 2-3 classes. It’s no need to buy and bring this paper for the first classes. Please, don’t cut before class).

   6. Watercolor brushes - synthetic or natural hair - 2 round brushes (medium size #5-7 and large size #9-12) and a ¾” or 1” flat. A round is the traditional shape that comes to a point. Bring smaller brushes if you like to work in detail. (Good set of 6 synthetic brushes you can buy in IKEA children section.)

  7. Watercolor paints. Student quality paints – Cotman W&N/Van Gogh.

Any brand of Artist quality paints. Different brands can be mixed together.

  • Lemon Yellow

  • Cadmium Yellow

  • Cadmium Red

  • Alizarin Crimson

  • Ultramarine

  • Phtalo Blue

  • Sap Green

  • Veridian

  • Sepia

(In addition: You can buy the cheap set of 12 watercolor paints “Revees”, “Staedtler” or “Prang” for exercises).

  8. Paper towel, B or HB pencil, white eraser or a kneaded eraser, water containers, small simple sketchbook.
