Back to School Pencil Doodle Tutorial

Now that we're back in the full swing of school, there's no better time to explore relaxation. A great way to do this is through art! This simple, low-pressure, and great-looking pencil doodle is the perfect activity to wind down with, and can be done with whatever material you have on hand. It's so easy that you might actually find yourself drawing it throughout the day— although we do reccomend you listen to your teacher rather than doodling on your homework!

Pencil Doodle - Step 1

To begin, we will draw an elongated, thin rectangle. This will be the shape from which we will base our whole drawing off of. If you wish, you can use a ruler to create those straight edges. In addition, could also play around with the length of your rectangle, and experiment with different effects!

Step 2

Now, draw three little lines on the top of your rectangle. These will represent the eraser and metal encasing. You can also experiment with length at this point of the activity— after all, there are no rules to creativity!

Step 3

Now's the time to shapen this pencil! At the bottom of your rectangle, draw a triangle, like seen below. Don't worry if it looks a little wonky at this point, we will remove the odd guidelines later.

Step 4

To get the effect that our pencil has been sharpened, we will add three curved lines, connected to the tip of the triangle, and next to one other. You will get a scalloped effect, like the one seen below.

Step 5

What's a pencil without its lead? To finish up our doodle, we will colour in the tip of the triangle.

Step 6

Now's the fun part: giving your drawing some style! Begin my removing those pesky but useful guidelines at the bottom or your doodle. Then, play around with accessorizing. You could add starts, hearts, smily faces, or whatever you'd like to your pencil! For this example, we have gone simple and drew a few of those lines you see on your traditional HB. Finally, experiment with colour and shading to get a variety of effects.
