You've probably seen it on your social media feed recently, but if you haven't, the coloring book trend is certainly making art cooler than it already is! Not only is this fun activity filled with cute little animals highly entertaining and "in," it also has great relaxation benefits. So what are you waiting for? If you've been wanting to join in on this in-vogue creativity but don't quite know where to start, we've got just the thing for you. Let's draw our own adorable illustration to make a fun colouring page!

Step 1 to make your own coloring book: Draw the Right Dog
We'll start our project by drawing the little furry friend on the right. To begin, let's sketch the head. This can be done by creating the start of a curved line with three little bumps at the bottom. Then, draw a curve at the bottom for the chin.

Next, we'll add the ears and muzzle. For the ears, draw two rounded triangles, with a curve to connect the two. Then, draw another curve in the middle of our friend's face.

We want our furry buddy to draw, so let's add some arms! To do this, go off of the face and draw a curve that narrows in the middle. Do this on both sides, and don't forget to draw a few lines to give the impression of an apron, as you can see below.

Now, this might not seem like much of a dog yet, but here's where we'll change that. Let's add some details! Draw two elongated dots to give the impression of eyes, and add another long, sideways dot for the nose. Two curved lines will make the mouth. For the paint brush, draw a rectangle and add a tear-drop shape at the bottom of it. Random squiggles all around, as you can see below, will give the impression that your friend is a messy little artist!

Feel free to experiment with this part of the activity. You can play around with making different animals, placing the paint splashes in different areas, or adding whatever you'd like to the drawing. This is your artwork, so try different things!
Step 2: Draw the Left Dog
Our furry buddy isn't the only one unleashing their creativity! To create the left dog, begin by again drawing the face. We will do this a bit differently than for the first dog, and make one right-facing curve. Connect this by making a curve that begins in the middle of the face, goes downwards, upwards again, and curls on the right side.

The body of our pal is also a series of curves. This includes one going off the head of the animal to produce its back, two going off the middle to give the impression of arms, and a swirly one off the back to give its tail.

It's once again time to add details, so like our other friend, we will add a few lines for the apron, elongated dots for the eyes, and a nose and mouth. A few curved and connected lines will give the impression of a fringe, and some splashes will make our doggy an artist!

Step 3: Background
We of course don't want to have these artsy friends floating in space, so let's give them somewhere to draw. To do this, add one line from the middle of the page going leftwards, and another connected to it going rightwards. This will act as the table. Then, off the peak of these lines, add another going upwards. We now have walls!

Here's the part where we can experiement the most! Draw two angled rectangles to give the impression of a piece of paper, and choose what your furry pals are painting! In this example, we chose a sun and a heart, but you can play around to do whatever you please. Don't forget those extra splashed from these messy artists!

Adding a few accessories is also a great way to spruce up our illustration, so let's add artist palettes for the two characters. For this, draw a circle that branches off in an extra bump. Also add an oval in the middle for the spot where you put your thumb.

A few splashes on and around the palettes will give the impression of paint!

We're coming to the last step of the illustration, which is to add artwork on the walls and a paintbrush for our pal on the left! Once again, there is no right or wrong way to do this, but here is how to get the same effect as us. For the left poster, draw a rectangle with the top left side flattened. On this side, draw a triangle. Also draw a long rectangle to give the impression that the work is taped on the wall. We drew paw prints on these by drawing an upside-down heart and four ovals around it. For the right frame, add two rectangles, one within the other, and a curve on top with a tiny circle in the middle. Draw whatever you want in the middle; we opted for stick people! The paintbrush can be created the same way we did with our right dog.

And that is all for our illustration! Once you have completed this in the medium and manner you desire, you can finally colour it in the way you have seen it on social media. Pick out the colours you want, and get creative! There is no right or wrong way to do this, so get wild!
